Day 9: Thu 13 Nov - Hariharieshwar to Dapoli

Fine & Sunny 23 to 31deg C
Ride: 62km; total: 298km

Hariharieshwar to Dapoli. Secluded coves and deserted beaches are our constant companions on this delightful ride. We cross lazy rivers on ferries and quirky bridges, arriving in the compact yet lively town of Dapoli, known for its great Konkani cuisine and coconut palms that often make their way into the delicious local food. Distance: 60km | Ride Time: 5 hours | Overnight: Dapoli

Breakfast was a little earlier today, 0630h, and made up of a couple of boiled eggs and some toast. Of course, accompanied by that great Indian tea. I haven’t been game to try the coffee as those who have do not recommend it.

Got going about 0700h, after the obligatory photos out the front by the owner; good for FB I suspect.  About 5km ride before we boarded the ferry across the river. They are in the process of building a bridge but that will be sometime yet. We certainly saw plenty of deserted beaches on our ride today as we head south through a near deserted countryside. We crossed plenty of bridges and saw the local fishermen in action. The coastline was never far away, however we had to make our way inland for the best hotel that we’ve stayed at so far, Comfort Inn, by Emerald, where we had a lovely late lunch of veg fried rice, Indian style.

After polishing off the fried rice, it was up to our rooms for a shower and change, domestic chores and then a wander around town. An interesting place, like all of India, where there’s just about a shop per person!  Not an obvious foreign person to be seen anywhere; we are definitely off the beaten track here.

I didn’t feel like dinner again tonight, maybe something to do with a 1430h lunch, so just relaxed in my room and went for another walk after the sun went down.

Another fascinating day on the bike in India.

Why use the local estuary as a dump the rubbish then ends up in the ocean and then anywhere in the world!
