Day 10: Fri 14 Nov - Dapoli to Guhagar

Fine & sunny 20 to 31deg C
Ride: 49km; total: 347km

Dapoli to Guhagar. More rural backcountry riding along the coastline, with sublime views of the Konkani coast and its scenic hinterland. The route is a rollercoaster of short, sharp climbs followed by equally steep descents as we reach the stunning beach at the laid-back town of Guhagar. Watch out for Great Hornbill birds in the nearby coconut groves. Distance: 54km | Ride Time: 4 hours | Overnight: Guhagar

Would have been nice to sleep in this morning as breakfast wasn’t until 0730h but no chance of that I was up and about before the 0530h alarm. Rode away about 0810h after a really nice feed of fried rice, rice cakes, boiled eggs, tea and toast.

Enjoyed the rural back-country riding never far from the foreshore with views every now and again of the Konkani Coast. Plenty of short sharp climbs followed by equally steep descents as we reach the beach at Guhagar. We kept an eye out for the Great Hornbill birds that flock to the nearby coconut groves, but they didn’t show up today; maybe tomorrow.

Another ferry ride to cross a rather wide river and then it wasn’t long before we were sitting down for lunch about 5km from the accommodation. The veg Thali, which was very tasty, but also full of spices that my stomach is not quite used to yet. I ended up tasting it all afternoon.

After checking in and doing some chores, Ken, Bob and I went for a walk to the beach which was closer than we thought. Lucky for us we timed it nicely as the local fishermen were getting their boats ready to go fishing for the night. Amazingly they actually carried the boats, full of gear to the water, a distance of about 100m, at least.

Not surprisingly I skipped dinner again having not long had lunch.
