Day 4: Sat 8 Nov - Mumbai

Fine & Sunny 26 to 30deg C
Walk 22km; total: 42km

Slept better last night. Set off with Bob about 0630h for our pre-breakfast walk. After initially heading inland, it wasn’t long before we were drawn back to the ocean and the lovely flat esplanade walkway. Plenty of keen joggers, walkers and watchers out also but still not crowded. It seemed like everyone respected each other’s space.

Straight to breakfast when we got back, where we met up with Ken, who had flown in early morning. His SA plane had also broken down in Singapore causing a delay. Same model A380 and we surmised that these aircraft are getting old. John and Simmo also arrived overnight but we haven’t seen them yet. It’s only Baz and Simon to come.

After breakfast Bob and I headed off to do a museum or two. Knowing that we were too early for our number 1 choice we went via Starbucks for a brew. No one has been game enough to try the coffee in the breakfast room yet. After enjoying a nice cuppa we headed to the museum, only to find that “due to ongoing maintenance issues” the museum opening today was delayed by 45 minutes. That’s ok we will go across the road to the Modern Art Museum. Alas that one is closed today due to “an exhibition changeover “.  That’s okay we’ll go around the block for a walk and by that time the original museum will be open. So, we go back to their gate and wait for the revised opening time.  That came and went; by this time, it was getting hotter.  The guards holding the gates closed then tell those close by that there is an electrical problem and it would be another 20 minutes or so.  After checking Google, we established that there is an art gallery just up the road.  This one was open, and it was free entry. After about 45 minutes we went back to the museum, and it was now accepting paying customers. So, we lined up with the hoards in total mayhem to get our tickets.  However, now the security people decided that they needed to shout at everyone and blow their whistles in a very confined space.  Well, that was it for me. I decided that I really didn’t want to see this museum today after all, I rather go and sit in a quiet restaurant and enjoy some lunch.  And that’s exactly what we did.  The lunch was simple, very tasty and even came complete with a little cup of ice cream.  We then headed back to our rooms for a rest.

The rest quickly turned into an afternoon nap and before I knew it people were knocking on my door and wondering what we were doing for dinner. Because we had enjoyed last night’s dinner so much, we decided to go back to the same place. But because they don’t serve alcohol at the restaurant, we had to go via The Beer Club. That done it was off to a very busy restaurant; it was Saturday night, so we expected it to be busier. The meal (vegetarian) was excellent again, but we did reminisce about juicy lamb chops and steak. We called it a day after that.  Tomorrow, we sort out the bikes and fit our own saddles etc.
